T Level Students - Glory's Story

My name is Glory, and I am a second-year student studying Digital Production Design Development (DPDD) at Shipley College. This case study has made me realise my motivation as a T level student, my experience with my course and what I aspire to do in the future after my qualifications.

I would start by informing you on what influenced my decision to do T Levels rather than A levels or other sort of options. I have always been a person who loved everything design and digital technologies. I would always design names or anything on paper and with glitter pens and I though A levels had lots of theoretical part to it without getting the experience while T levels on the other hand had offers of studying as well as an offer from industrial placements, which I thought was a great way to gain real world experiences.

One main advantage is the work placement. I get to study as well as get the adequate experience and with the realisation that I’ve got a head start in my career and this would also help me decide what I want for the future and the right path for me. I also love the fact that T levels are equivalent to three A levels, so I’m getting a good qualification as well as getting experience.

I’d say one disadvantage I’m able to think of as a T level student would be that it is quite demanding, getting qualifications as well as working in an industry could be a lot of work but I think at the end of the two years, it would all be worth it as hard work pays off.

What I love most about my course, Digital Product Design Development would be learning various programming languages. I also enjoy the creative design part of my course like designing various websites and an app.

One thing I’m not very confident about is the technical aspect of my course, it could be stressful and challenging at time but with a lot of practice I hope to get better and become very good at it. I’d give an example of what I mean by my course being stressful and challenging, I realised I’m not the best when it comes to spellings, I would always either omit a letter or add too many letters in one word and this was quite frustrating for me, I miss a letter in my spelling while coding and my entire code does not work, but with time, with the help of my coding teachers and self-practice I began to take precautions of those sort of mistakes.

It's been really amazing to have found a work experience in Bradford Council, I have been able to learn so much and it’s been a great experience right from the start and that is a great bonus to my career and course.

I would absolutely recommend T levels as it is a great option for anyone who loves a practical career focused education.

I am hoping to go further my education on Computer Science with Cybersecurity or Computer Science in General in university. I have been able to apply to various courses on UCAS and am waiting for university offers.

In conclusion, my experience as a T Level Student has been rather positive, I am very confident that my course would help me achieve my future career goals.
