Laura Liddon, Level 5 – Operations / Departmental Manager Apprentice

Laura Liddon, Dance for Life Coordinator, Bradford Council

Why did you choose an Apprenticeship?

I chose to do an apprenticeship for a variety of reasons. First, it gives me the chance to gain hands-on experience, letting me learn and apply management skills directly in a real work environment. It also offers a structured pathway to broaden my skill set, with the guidance of experienced professionals. I’m excited about the career opportunities this will open up, as well as the chance to understand people better, learn what motivates them, and how to help them reach their potential. Plus, I get to work alongside and learn from other professionals in my field, which is a huge bonus!

What has been the most rewarding part of your apprenticeship so far?

The most rewarding part of my apprenticeship so far has been the chance to apply what I’ve learned in real-world situations and see the tangible impact of my work. It’s incredibly fulfilling to contribute to my team’s success and know that my efforts are making a difference. Additionally, building strong relationships with my colleagues and learning from their experiences has been invaluable. Seeing my skills grow and gaining confidence in my abilities has been a highlight, and it’s exciting to know that I’m laying a solid foundation for my future career.

What have you taken from the apprenticeship so far?

So far, I’ve gained a lot from my apprenticeship. I’ve developed practical management skills, like effective communication, problem-solving, and time management, that I’m able to use daily. Working closely with experienced professionals has given me insights into best practices and strategies that you don’t typically get from a classroom. I’ve also learned a lot about how to motivate and support a team, which has helped me grow as a leader. Most importantly, I’ve gained confidence in my abilities and a clearer understanding of my career path and goals.

How have you progressed or plan to progress following your apprenticeship?

I plan to continue building on the skills and knowledge I’ve gained. My goal is to take on more responsibility, whether that means pursuing a promotion within my current role or exploring opportunities for further study or a more advanced apprenticeship. I’m committed to continuous learning and professional growth, and I’m excited to see where this experience will take me next.

Would you recommend an Apprenticeship to others?

Absolutely, I would recommend an apprenticeship to others. It’s a fantastic way to gain real-world experience while learning valuable skills directly from professionals in your field. You get to apply what you’re learning immediately, which helps reinforce your knowledge and build confidence. Apprenticeships also open up a lot of doors, whether it’s for future job opportunities, further education, or career advancement. If you’re someone who prefers hands-on learning and wants to jumpstart your career, an apprenticeship is definitely worth considering.
