From Learner to Teaching Assistant: Kasturi's Inspiring Journey
When Kasturi Bose moved to the UK in 2017, she dedicated her time to raising her daughter and supporting her family. As her daughter approached the end of primary school, Kasturi began thinking about her own future and taking the first steps towards employment. Having never worked in the UK before, building confidence was a key priority.
With a passion for helping children, Kasturi enrolled on the Teaching Assistant Level 2 award with Skills for Work in September 2025. Educated in India, she was eager to understand how the UK education system operates and quickly found the course both informative and engaging.
Alongside her studies, Kasturi took proactive steps towards her career goals by securing a volunteer placement at a local school. This valuable experience helped her gain confidence, develop her communication skills with children and apply her learning in a real-world setting. Determined to strengthen her skills even further, Kasturi also achieved her Functional Skills Level 2 Maths qualification, enhancing her employability and opening up new opportunities.
Her hard work and commitment soon paid off. Drawing on the knowledge and confidence gained through her course, Kasturi successfully applied for a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at a local school. Preparation sessions built into the programme helped her excel during the interview process, including delivering a micro-teaching activity to a group of children.
Today, Kasturi is preparing to start her new role and embark on an exciting new chapter in her career.
