Buhar’s Journey - From Starting Over to Securing Employment

When Buhar moved from Iraq to the UK 15 years ago, she faced the difficult challenge of rebuilding her future in a completely different education and employment system. Despite having previous qualifications and experience, she discovered that these were not recognised within the UK labour market, creating barriers to employment and progression.

Determined not to give up, Buhar showed incredible resilience and commitment to improving her skills. After completing courses with a range of adult education providers, she joined Skills for Work following recommendations about the support available for learners looking to move into employment.

Through Skills for Work, Buhar successfully completed courses including Level 2 English, Environmental Sustainability, CV writing workshops, and interview preparation sessions. Along the way, she developed stronger communication, employability, and confidence-building skills, helping her feel more prepared for the world of work.

Her hard work and dedication paid off when she successfully secured a role as a Lunchtime Supervisor at Bradford Academy Primary School in March 2026 — an important first step towards her long-term career goals in the education sector.

Buhar’s journey is a powerful example of how determination, lifelong learning, and the right support can help individuals overcome barriers, build confidence, and create new opportunities for themselves and their families. We are incredibly proud of everything she has achieved and look forward to seeing her continue to grow and succeed in her career journey.
